Sister Apolina of New Caledonia began a group of Lay Marists which she continues to lead. She shares their reflections and tells us how they live as Marists in the Church and in the world.
From the beginnings of our group, the text “Do whatever he tells you” (Jn 2:5), from the marriage of Cana, has influenced us and pushed us into action. Several of us have committed ourselves to organisations that help others so that we could combine prayer and action in our lives. We are all aware of having been called to act in Mary’s way for the good of our brothers and sisters in need. We have also taken various initiatives that help us to live our mission more fully: taking responsibility for leading prayer of adoration among the people in the tribal areas, guiding and preparing them to take over this responsibility so that they will be able to continue this prayer of adoration. We are concerned about vocations and pray and support the young people who are in houses of formation.
“We asked Sr Apolina to lead us in a short three day retreat that would help us live as Mary did and she invited us to join in the retreat of the three postulants. It was a very positive experience, an intense time.”
Here are some short reflections from two of us: “The presence and action of Mary, servant of the Lord have taught me to live gently in confidence and humility of heart” (Sylvie). “I thank the Lord for this time of grace and for the sisters who were welcoming. My hope is that each retreatant may go forth with a heart full of love and grace: Hungering for peace. Thirsting for hope” (Antoine). |
